Posted on May 20, 2024 Written by Walter Wimberly 5 Comments

While you are visiting Reedy River Falls, you will find yourself in downtown Greenville, SC. This growing city has turned their downtown area into a performing arts center, where you will find theaters, concert halls, and more.

Festivals

Several times a year, Greenville will host different festivals in this downtown area as well. Some of these include:

  • Artisphere – three-day art festival held each spring.
  • The Upstate Shakespeare Festival – Shakespeare and other classic plays each summer in Falls Park.
  • Fall for Greenville – three-day music and food street festival held each fall.
  • Indie Craft Parade – festival of handmade art held each September.
  • Big Fandom Greenville – three-day comic book and science fiction convention held each October.

Throughout the downtown area, you will find Mice on Main. On Main street, between Hyatt and the Westin Poinsett Hotel, there are nine bronze mice. These mice came from Jim Ryan, and was based on the book Goodnight Moon. Designed to be a kid friendly experience, kids of all ages hunt for these little mice trying to find them. You can search online to find additional hints as to where they are.

Zoos and Museums

Greenville also hosts the Greenville Zoo. This is a small zoo, and easy to complete in a day without feeling worn out. We once went and saw about 2/3rds of it, in an afternoon.

Our first time there, it was decorated for Boo at the Zoo, which is their Halloween special event. We’ve also visited during Christmas, and it was decorated for it as well, with several photo opportunities for the kids.

Greenville also has several museums Greenville County Museum of Art and The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, as well as the Sargent-Wilson Museum & Gallery at Heritage Green which is at Bob Jones University and several others.

Parks and Recreations

Given the temperate climate, there are numerous parks and recreation facilities around Greenville.

Reedy River Falls and the bridge in Falls Park are lit up at night. Falls Park includes a walking trail all around the waterfall and downtown river area.

Across from the Greenville Zoo is another playground for young children.

The largest trail that we’ve been on is Swamp Rabbit Trail. This 21 mile trail runs along the river and connects varying businesses, schools, and more.

Make sure to plan at least 4-5 days when visiting Greenville. There is so much to do. It is impossible to even come close to seeing all the sites in less time. We only stayed for a long weekend and there was so much left that we wanted to do.

Greenville is amazing! I visited once before with my parents and we all loved it! There’s a lot more things that we didn’t do while we were there. Maybe will go again sometime.
