Burgess Falls State Park is home to Middle Falls and three other waterfalls on the same trail. Middle Falls is the third you will come to on the trail.
From the parking lot, just follow the stairs and your ears straight down to the 20 foot Falling Water Cascades. After viewing Falling Water Cascades and Upper/Little Falls continue down the trail. There are a few roots protruding from the trail so watch your step. You’ll cross a wooden bridge just after you pass Upper/Little Falls.
A short distance later, you’ll come to a steep staircase. Some of the steps were a little tall for my toddler to easily navigate, but with help he was able to manage them. There is a bench at the top of the stairs before you continue on to Middle Falls.
There was originally an overlook for Middle Falls, however it was washed out due to some recent flooding (we visited in March 2019). The view just before you get to the overlook is still very impressive.
Be sure to continue up the trail to see Burgess Falls. It is well worth the effort.
Burgess Falls State Park has maintained restrooms and a playground if you have little ones. It is a great place to stop if you are traveling on I-40 and want to stretch your legs. Although most people recommend Fall Creek Falls State Park, I enjoyed Burgess much better. Perhaps you can try both and let me know which you prefer.
