Dupont State Forest Waterfall Day Trip

Posted on June 24, 2020 Written by Tracy Wimberly 2 Comments

Looking for a day trip to view several waterfalls while in North Carolina, then look no further. These waterfalls have been featured in a few of our other waterfall road trips. However, many of these other trips are multiple days, and if that is too long we’ve separated these three waterfalls out for you, so you can do them in a single day.

One such trip is our North Carolina Road Trip. If you have several days to spend in the area I highly recommend adding all the waterfalls in this 3-5 day waterfall road trip. However, if you only have a day, here is the one’s that are easy to see and relatively easy to get to, as they are easy and moderate in difficulty.

While the travel time by car is only just over 30 minutes, these three are very popular and can take some time to hike to. Also if you’re like us and want photos without other people in them, it can take extra time to get these photos. We estimate the round trip hike time can be over 3-4 hours without stopping for lunch or a snack.

Click on the links in the description to get more information about these waterfalls.

Hooker Falls

Although Hooker Falls is short in height, only 14 feet, it is breathtaking to view. It is an easy hike of less than a mile round trip along a gravel road. There is very little elevation change, which makes this easy.

The waterfall was seen in the movie The Last of the Mohicans when the characters go over the falls in canoes.

Triple Falls

Triple Falls is a moderate one mile hike from the Hooker Falls parking area. It is much more impressive to view as it has a height of 120-foot.

There are several different viewing areas for this waterfall. You can view the waterfall in sections and as a whole. Like the name says there are three different waterfalls that make up this one waterfall.

High Falls

The High Falls trail is a moderate 2.2 mile round trip hike in the Dupont State Forest. You can access Triple Falls and High Falls from the same trail.

High Falls is a large cascade and popular given its size.
