Upper Waterloo Falls is a 5 foot waterfall located about 15 minutes north of Cookeville. While 5 feet in height seems really small, this waterfall is probably one the widest I’ve ever seen. It isn’t the most impressive waterfall, but it is quite pretty and peaceful. There are also “angel wing” shells at the end of the path leading to the waterfall which my kids enjoyed finding.
It is a little tricky to find, but it is worth the effort. There are no signs pointing toward Upper Waterloo Falls (or Waterloo Falls, which you can access from the same parking lot), but it is easy to get to. Once you park your car, go toward the back of the parking area and head east on the dirt road, which follows Spring Creek. The road forks many times so always pick the way that is closest to the creek. This path will dead-end into Upper Waterloo Falls in about 0.25 miles. Return to the parking area the way you came.
One really great thing about this waterfall is that Waterloo Falls, a 35 foot waterfall, shares the same parking area, so you get two family friendly waterfalls for a minimal amount of effort.
To get to Waterloo Falls from the same parking area, go to your right and you’ll see a path that will lead you to the top of Waterloo Falls. You can venture down the path a little ways, which runs along the side of the waterfall. Return to the parking lot the way you came.
